Despite the restoration of control over the situation in all regions of Kazakhstan, it is necessary to fight “terrorists” until they are completely eliminated. This was stated by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev during a meeting of the counter-terrorism headquarters, the press service reports.

He noted that law enforcement officers are still conducting “intense” activities, as “terrorists” are still causing damage to the citizens of the country. “Therefore, counter-terrorist actions should be continued until the complete destruction of the militants,” he said.

Tokayev instructed security officials to urgently find those responsible for the riots

Protests in Kazakhstan began in early January due to a sharp rise in the cost of liquefied gas by half. A few days later, the actions escalated into riots and clashes with the police. The demonstrators seized a number of administrative buildings in different cities of the country. Street fighting, in particular, began in Alma-Ata, Tokayev reported a clash between “terrorists” and paratroopers.

According to the President of Kazakhstan, infrastructure facilities are trying to seize “terrorist gangs” that invaded from abroad. “The attack on Kazakhstan can and should be viewed as an act of aggression,” Tokayev said. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic warned that they would destroy those who refuse to lay down their arms. During the operation, the security forces detained more than 3 thousand people, killed 26 “criminals”, said later in the department.
