Their discussions focused on the security situation in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo in general and the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) of combatants of the RED TABARA armed movement, where they essentially returned to the decisions taken by the Heads of State of the East African Community to support the Democratic Republic of Congo in regaining peace and security in the East.

“Burundi is not in a situation of belligerence and therefore, there are no other alternatives than to ask these armed groups to return to the process of Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) in the Burundian community” , reported the Burundian Head of State.

Eager to see all the daughters and sons of the country live peacefully in their homeland, the Father of the Nation launched a vibrant appeal to the RED TABARA fighters to return without delay to their country which is waiting to welcome them with open arms, while recalling that those who are pursued by the courts for crimes committed will certainly have to answer for their actions. He took advantage of this opportunity to reassure these fighters that the Burundian Government is ready to send a delegation, if necessary, to meet them in order to establish the terms of their repatriation.

The President of the Republic asked his hosts to do everything to convince these children of the country who are wandering in the DRC to return to contribute to the development of their homeland.

Delegates from the European Institute for Peace in turn reaffirmed their commitment to discussing with all stakeholders so that these armed groups lay down their weapons to return to their country.

The President of the Republic His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE then received in audience an Indian delegation led by Mr. Aftab Alam Khan, CEO of Mz Pharmed LLP, wishing to invest in Burundi in the pharmaceutical sector, as well as in the supply of equipment and medical support for cardiovascular operations.

Mr Aftab Alam Khan was accompanied by a delegate from the Indian company “Master Electricals”, which wishes to invest in the energy sector.

The Head of State welcomed the visit of this delegation and reassured that Burundi’s doors are open to investors and facilities will be offered to them to start their projects.
