The Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR) will ask the court to send four detainees to the pre-trial detention center in the case of the tragedy at the Listvyazhnaya mine in Kuzbass. None of them pleaded guilty, including Mikhail Fedyaev, President of the Siberian Business Union (SDS). The accident killed 46 miners and 5 rescuers.
Mikhail Fedyaev is one of the founders of the SDS. He also serves as chairman of the board of directors and owner of 50% of SDS-Ugol, which owns Listvyazhnaya and is part of the SDS holding.
The ICR today, December 15, charged Mikhail Fedyaev with abuse of power in a commercial organization, which led to dire consequences (part 2 of article 201 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), according to a statement by the official representative of the department, Svetlana Petrenko. Besides him, charges were brought against Gennady Alekseev, general director of SDS-Ugol, Anton Yakutov, technical director, and Anatoly Lobanov, chief engineer of Listvyazhnaya Mine LLC. They are accused of violating the industrial safety requirements of hazardous production facilities, which inadvertently resulted in the death of two or more persons (part 3 of article 217 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The detained Mikhail Fedyaev and Gennady Alekseev at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin via video link said that they were ready to bear responsibility for the deaths of people at the mine. The head of state promised not to allow “sweeping accusations.”
Five more people are being prosecuted, who were detained immediately after the accident – General Director of Listvyazhnoy Sergei Makhrakov, his first deputy Andrei Molostov, site manager Sergei Gerasimenok, as well as chief state inspectors of the Belovsky territorial department of the Siberian department of Rostekhnadzor Sergei Vinokurov and Vyacheslav Semykin … They are accused of violating industrial safety requirements or of negligence (part 3 of article 217 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, part 3 of article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The accident at Listvyazhnaya took place on 25 November. All bodies were raised to the surface only on December 13th.
