The head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, put on personal control the investigation of the criminal case on the poisoning of students with methanol in Kazan. The head of the Investigation Department of the TFR for the Republic of Tatarstan, Valery Lipsky, is to report this.
On Tuesday night, a group of 18 young people celebrated the birthday of one of them in a cottage on the outskirts of Kazan. 14 people drank some kind of alcohol-containing drink, and later everyone became ill. There were reported 13 hospitalizations. Everyone has methanol poisoning. Doctors assess the condition of the victims as moderate and severe.
The standard criminal article for such cases is 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “production, storage or transportation for the purpose of marketing or marketing of goods and products that do not meet the requirements of the safety of life or health of consumers.”
The investigation found out that before the party one of the students bought a five-liter plastic can of alcohol through a friend and put it in the trunk of the car. However, it was then confused with windshield washer fluid and was mistakenly used by adding fragrances.
The police detained four people for selling counterfeit alcohol, which most likely poisoned the young people.
