The head of the Ministry of Digital Development Shadayev spoke about the benefits of canceling unlimited communication tariffs

The refusal of operators from unlimited communication tariffs will allow not to reduce the access speed in the absence of equipment supplies, said Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Communications Maksut Shadayev. His words are reported by the TASS agency.

According to him, due to the lack of confirmation of the possibility of supplying equipment from large manufacturers, operators are forced to look for new opportunities to purchase or manufacture this equipment in Russia. “Obviously, we have a time lag when we think that it is possible to balance unlimited tariffs in favor of not reducing the overall access speed,” Shadayev explained.

The department, he said, is forced to “choose the lesser of evils.” “Either we still have cheap unlimited tariffs, which operators introduced a long time ago and which create a load on the network, and our average speed drops per subscriber, or we slowly begin to revise unlimited tariffs, but in general, our average speed does not fall,” said he, emphasizing that the agency considers it right to guarantee the overall speed and non-deterioration of the overall quality with the possible revision of archived unlimited tariffs.

In November last year, the operators VimpelCom (Beeline brand), Megafon, MTS and T2 RTK Holding (Tele2) stopped connecting new subscribers to unlimited Internet. The companies then said that nothing would change for existing customers with unlimited Internet if they themselves did not change the tariff.

Earlier, mobile operators warned about the risk of failures due to worn out equipment. In particular, market participants say that in the current economic conditions, equipment reserves to ensure the operability of the infrastructure of telecom operators will last for four to six months, and from July to August the risk of accidents and disruption of network operation will increase.
