The world may not be ready for a new pandemic, since humanity has already switched to solving other challenges. As Day.Az reports, this was stated on Monday by the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, during the World Government Summit in Dubai.

“The painful lessons we have learned are at risk of being forgotten as attention turns to the many other crises facing our world,” Ghebreyesus said.

According to him, a new pandemic will happen sooner or later in any case; it can be caused by either a pathogen already known to people or a new one. The head of WHO believes that if this happened tomorrow, people would have to endure much of the same thing as four years ago.

“As things stand now, the world is not ready for the next disease X and the next pandemic,” Ghebreyesus is confident.

In this regard, the head of the WHO asked states to try to find common ground and continue to develop an agreement on preparing for pandemics.

“Disease X” is a designation for a hypothetical and unknown pathogen capable of causing a new epidemic. Ghebreyesus dedicated his report to this threat at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
