The fight to reduce the maternal death rate has now become a priority for the transitional authorities. The Coyah prefectural hospital thus served as the setting on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, for the ceremony of handing over sonus kits to the health district of the prefecture.
The objective is to provide the country’s health facilities with a large batch of kits for the effectiveness of free caesarean section, the management of prenatal consultations and the facilitation of normal deliveries. This ceremony mobilized the prefectural, sub-prefectural and municipal authorities of the locality, but also, the professionals of the health district of Soumbouyah.
Very satisfied with this government action, the Prefectural Director of Health, Dr. Sékou Gnouma Camara, declared: “It is a feeling of satisfaction that we experience by receiving these caesarean kits. We are in a district where the caesarean rate is very high. This is due to the underestimation of our population, which is a growing population. Then, there are other prefectures that come to be treated within our structures. This is an opportunity for me to thank the members of the government, including our Minister of Health, Dr. Oumar Diouhè Bah and especially the leadership of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Army Corps General Mamadi Doumbouya, who is doing extraordinary things for the Guinean population in terms of support in all sectors, particularly the health sector.”

With an imposing tone, the prefect of Coyah, Colonel Yaya Kalissa, was keen to clarify: “Through the President of the Republic, the Minister of Health was kind enough to think of Coyah and all 33 prefectures of Guinea will be equipped with these kits. With the CNRD, it is not words, it is concrete action on the ground. So he decided to help us, so he thought of the population, especially our mothers, our sisters and our wives.” About the use, he explained: “The use of these kits will pass without comment, no false note and if I hear in a center, people have taken money from the hands of patients, that is the total radiation from the health workforce. No money, whoever tries to do that, not only do you lose your job, you lose your promotion and it is legal proceedings. There are now enough kits in health centers and hospitals.”
Presiding over this handover ceremony, the representative of the Minister of Health, Dr. Mamoudou Sangaré, Regional Director of Health, for his part, stressed: “These kits come to solve a problem that has lasted 5 years. That has become a distant past. Today, we have kits to meet the aspirations of the community. Today, we insist on free of charge. The rational use of these kits would not want our health workers to think that it is free and that we are going to use it, it is a gift that we can use as we wish. We will ensure that. And I would like to take advantage of this microphone to reiterate my commitment to the President of the Republic, his Prime Minister and my direct hierarchical superior, Dr. Oumar Diouhè Bah, to make the use of these kits a reality for the benefit of our fellow citizens.”
It should be remembered that in the prefecture of Coyah, for prenatal consultation, monthly, we have 1379 women, 1375 deliveries on average per month and 137 cesareans performed on average.
