The helicopter crash that killed Iran’s late president Ebrahim Raisi was mainly due to weather conditions that included thick fog, the final investigation report said, Iranian state television reported, Reuters reported, citing BTA.

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi, a hardliner who was seen as a potential successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, died when his helicopter crashed in May in a mountainous region near the border with Azerbaijan.

“The primary cause of the helicopter crash was the complex weather conditions in the region,” the final report said.

A thick mass of fog caused the helicopter carrying Raisi and his companions to crash into the mountain, said a report prepared by a commission tasked by the Iranian military with investigating the incident.

A preliminary report by the Iranian military in May said the investigation found no evidence of wrongdoing or an attack on the flight.
