Friday August 18, the 13 Hours takes the direction of Occitanie, to discover its riches and its entertainment, with a small detour through the gorges of the Hérault. A landscape sculpted in the rock, located less than an hour from Montpellier.

Water and centuries have shaped them. The rocky and plant landscapes of the Hérault gorges attract 800,000 visitors each year. The Devil’s Bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, marks the beginning of the route. At its feet, inside the gorges, some swimmers take advantage of the exceptional panorama. Further on, the shallow water becomes a natural swimming pool. Here, the cliffs sometimes give way to trees, rare islands of freshness.

Pottery and climbing

The Hérault gorges meander through the rock for more than 25 km. The route leads to Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, ranked among the most beautiful villages in France with its thousand-year-old abbey, and Saint-Jean-de-Fos, where tourists can take part in pottery workshops. To the north of the Hérault gorges, a group chose the Via Ferrata, a sporty crossing on passages on the side of the cliff. With a climb in narrow passages and breathtaking views of the entire valley. This majestic site is sometimes over-appreciated by visitors. Some passages are closed to the public to protect them from overcrowding.
