School Inspectorate Spends SEK 6 Million on Inspecting Thorengruppen’s High Schools

The School Inspectorate has allocated a significant amount of resources to inspect the high schools belonging to the Thorengruppen school group, according to recent reports from Dagens Nyheter. This year alone, the authority has spent SEK 6 million on supervising these schools.

Helén Ängmo, the Director General of the School Inspectorate, revealed that the inspection process required approximately 5,000 hours of work, resulting in an estimated cost of SEK 6 million so far this year. This is a considerable increase compared to three or four years ago when the yearly expenditure for these inspections ranged between one and two million kronor.

Ängmo explained that the growth of the Thorengruppen school group plays a significant role in the increased costs. The group has expanded by opening new schools and acquiring existing ones. As a result, the School Inspectorate needs to allocate more resources to effectively monitor and evaluate the quality of education within the Thorengruppen’s schools.

Looking ahead, the School Inspectorate has 15 pending inspection cases of Thorengruppen’s schools scheduled for 2023, according to DN.

Thorengruppen’s schools have faced criticism in the past, primarily due to concerns such as inadequate teaching time for students and insufficient support for students in need. In July of this year, the permit for Thoren Business School in Solna, Stockholm, was even withdrawn due to deficiencies in the teaching provided by the school.

These inspection efforts by the School Inspectorate aim to ensure that all schools in the Thorengruppen group meet the necessary educational standards and provide a high-quality learning environment for their students. Through close monitoring and evaluation, the authority seeks to address any shortcomings and help improve the overall educational experience within the school group.

The substantial resources invested in inspecting Thorengruppen’s high schools highlight the significance placed on maintaining educational standards and promoting a positive learning environment for students. As the School Inspectorate continues its efforts, it hopes to see improvements in the schools’ performance and better outcomes for the students they serve.
