The High Court will hear the appointment of Amir Peretz

by time news

The High Court of Justice (High Court) is expected to hear in the coming days a petition submitted to its table against the appointment of Amir Peretz as chairman of the IAI board of directors, it was reported today. The petition will be forwarded after two months ago, the Movement for Quality of Government petitioned against the appointment of Peretz to the post on the grounds that he was political, after it was approved by the government in an unusual procedure in which ministers bypassed the decision of the Public Service Appointments Committee (Gilour).

The committee rejected the appointment about two months ago following his political affiliation with Defense Minister Bnei Gantz who led the move. On the other hand, the committee determined that Peretz does not have the managerial experience needed to lead a government company, which employs 15,000 people. After much deliberation, the court today decided to refer the petition for hearing before a three-judge panel, the court said today.

In their petition to the High Court, the Movement for Quality of Government argued that, in their view, Peretz’s controversial appointment was expected to open the door to a number of further political appointments in the future, and that it would set a precedent for the Gilour Commission’s decisions. Of Peretz in the position of defense minister provides in order to overcome his lack of managerial experience and is therefore qualified for the position to see them.
