Great actions by many students make an impressive donation to UNICEF possible. The organization presented the school with a certificate at the SIBI Summer Night and expressed a big thank you to the school community on behalf of the organization.
Everyone still has the horrific images of the adoring earthquake in Turkey and Syria on 2/6/23. The suffering of the people affected initially prompted the student Yasmin Ahoul (Class 8c) to propose and initiate a fundraising campaign. For her brilliant idea, the student was awarded the school’s Courage Prize at this year’s Sibi Summer Night, which cabaret artist Sebastian Pufpaff, a former high school student, endowed with 300 euros.
Many students from the Municipal Siebengebirgsgymnasium Bad Honnef got involved in the idea and started a whole series of fundraising campaigns – what followed was a real fundraising marathon.
There was also a quick consensus in the school community that the money from these campaigns should go to help the children suffering from this catastrophe. Therefore, the decision fell on the aid organization UNICEF.
It started with fundraisers by individual classes raising money for the earthquake victims by fundraising and selling cake donations. With the support of their class teacher Heike Haase, class 6a alone managed to raise more than 1,600 euros thanks to their impressive commitment. Other classes and groups of students followed suit.
Another highlight of the fundraising campaign was the call for donations at this year’s SIBI Chamber Concert on March 17th. In addition to the impressive musical performance of the students, under the direction of Ms. Beyer, Ms. Hübert-Kuß, Mr. Senz and Ms. Stefer, the willingness of the audience to donate was also impressive, unmistakably supported by the convincing performances.
Photographs by senior high school students were also available for purchase that evening to raise additional funds.
A total of 3,786.09 euros was collected through all actions. The representatives of UNICEF were already visibly impressed when they attended the chamber concert and gratefully accepted the donation on behalf of UNICEF.
The certificate was handed over by UNICEF to the school community last Friday (6/2/23) as part of the Sibi Summer Night and was accepted by the SV on behalf of all the students involved.
