Polina Bolgareva, forward of the Russian women’s ice hockey team at the Olympics, has contracted the coronavirus, the team’s head coach Yevgeny Bobariko said. At competitions in Beijing, the athlete played three matches and scored three goals.
“We arrived at the Olympic village after the match with Canada and found out that Polina tested positive for coronavirus. I don’t know how this happens, ”the coach told RIA Novosti. He did not say anything about the girl’s condition.
The match between the national teams of Russia and Canada was held the day before, on February 7. The game was postponed for almost an hour because the Canadian athletes refused to come out until the results of the Russian women’s tests for coronavirus came. As a result, the girls played in the first period in medical masks. The Russian team lost the match with a score of 1:6.
The Russian women’s ice hockey team will play the final match of the group stage today, February 8. The Russians will play with the Finnish team.
