The Writers Guild of America announced the end of its strike against Hollywood studios, which lasted 148 days.

After reaching a tentative agreement, the boards of directors voted unanimously to lift the strike order starting August 25.

The new collective contract will be put to a ratification vote from October 2 to 9. In the meantime, the writers can get back to work.

The union detailed improvements such as higher residual payments for streaming and protections against the use of artificial intelligence.

They also negotiated a 50% bonus on certain platform success stories.

Other achievements were establishing that AI cannot write material and that scriptwriters are not required to use it. In addition, companies must report broadcast hours of streaming content globally.

The agreement will last three years. Its ending gives hope to the Actors Union, which has been on strike since July without progress with the studios. The end of the screenwriters’ strike allows productions to resume in Hollywood.
