We had been counting for more than a year that Honda was preparing the return of one of the most emblematic supersports on the market: the CBR600RR. On July 21, 2023 the japanese released a ‘teaser’ video of the new CBR600RR through their official page, so it is confirmed that the new model will arrive imminently. In the brief announcement they mention that the worldwide presentation of the model will take place at the Suzuka 8 Hours that will take place from August 4 to 6.
The current CBR600RR model was released in September 2020. That bike only made it to Japan, where it had two years of production left. In Europe, that motorcycle did not even arrive due to anti-pollution regulationsand we saw it disappear definitively in 2017. The entry of Euro 4 killed it, and the notable lack of demand ended up striking it down..
The CBR600RR will now live a second life. The Japanese media predict that it will be launched in Europe adapted to two regulations, the Japanese (Reiwa) and the European (Euro5), with a similar level of restrictions. Therefore, making one regulation pass would also make it happen in the other, despite the differences. Come on, it will arrive in Europe on a par with the new 2024 Kawasaki ZX-6R presented a little over a month ago.
In addition to that, the new model that will officially debut at the Suzuka 8 Hours will arrive with certain novelties like IMU-controlled ABS and traction control and an electronic throttle, a couple of details the latest version didn’t have. The new CBR600RR is also expected to come with a semi-automatic transmission.
Where you should not expect too many changes is in the physical section. Honda remodeled this motorcycle in 2020, so after three years in Japan they consider it to be a motorcycle adapted to modern times. The new model will follow the ‘winglets’ style that was already inaugurated in the 2020 Japanese edition. In addition, it will come with its peculiar exhaust system under the rear tail, a hallmark of the CBR series.
They also specify that in Japan the CBR will arrive in March 2024. In Europe, that date could be delayed a little longer, perhaps until the summer.
The CBR600RR comes at the perfect time. That is to sayto battle the recently announced Kawasaki ZX-6R. It seems that the supersports are back, and the competition will be more than served.
