★★★★1/2 The story of a gullible but brutal woman and a brutal, psychopathic con man who hit the road to swindle, win over and ultimately lead to the crime of lonely women is one of the most disturbing and ground-breaking films of years. seventies, perhaps one of the foundation stones of the time. Raw and hard, perhaps the reader remembers the classic Deep Crimson, by Arturo Ripstein, its Mexican remake, or the poetic Badlands, by Terrence Malick, which takes the main anecdote (in fact, a real case) and goes in another direction. . The film opts for the edge and also for the portrait of a generalized perversion, both in the criminals and in their victims, castaways from the American (and romantic) dream: it is basically a reflection on romanticism and, at the same time, an exercise of hopeless romanticism). Scorsese started shooting the movie, and he was fired. It was done by Leonard Kastle and he achieved almost a masterpiece. And Scorsese’s next film is the remake – let’s curl the loop – of The Honeymoon Killers. Good time to review or discover it.
