The Moroccan delegation, led by Advisor Elgarch Khalihana, coordinator of the Democratic Confederation of Labor group in the House of Advisors and member of the UPA Executive Committee, will also participate in the 45th Conference of the African Parliamentary Union, scheduled for December 14 and 15, indicates a press release from the House of Advisors.
The President of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, Adama Bictogo, and the President of the Executive Committee of the UPA, President of the Senate of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Mabel Chinomona, stressed, at the opening of this session, the importance of the issues raised, namely “the fight against insecurity and terrorism, factors of political instability and recession” and “The development of intra-African trade with a view to the effective implementation of the agenda of African regional integration”, notes the same source.
The commission responsible for financial contributions from UPA member states, created during the 77th session of the UPA Executive Committee (March 10 and 11, 2022 in Kigali) held its second meeting, recalls the same source, adding that this commission aims to monitor the financial commitments of member states within the Union and explore ways and means to encourage states to honor their financial commitments.
This meeting was attended by Elgarch Khalihana, who was elected in Kigali as a member of this Commission for the North African region, notes the same source, adding that the Advisor stressed during an intervention that the recommendations approved during the previous meeting of the Commission have not yet been implemented.
The Advisor called, in this sense, for finding effective mechanisms to encourage States to pay their arrears of contributions to the UPA, stressing that the contributions aim to develop the action of the UPA and enable it to play a major role on the African and international scene.
The work, which will continue in Côte d’Ivoire until December 15, 2023, will be marked by the holding of the meeting of the Commission of Women Parliamentarians of the UPA on December 13 and the 45th Conference of the African Parliamentary Union, on December 14 and 15, the press release recalls.
The Moroccan delegation taking part in this session is composed, in addition to Mr. Elgarch Khalihana, of members of the House of Representatives, Zineb Simou and Hatim Benrkia (National Rally of Independents), Nadia Bouzendoufa (Authenticity and Modernity), Madiha Khayr and Abdelilah Mhadi (Union and Egalitarianism Group) and Cherkaoui Znaydi (Socialist Group), the press release concludes.
