The House of Representatives announced its “categorical rejection of attempts to tamper with the Central Bank of Libya, and the attempt by a number of people to seize control of the bank and incite storming of its headquarters, and the attempt to find a justification for the removal of the governor, Al-Siddiq Al-Kabeer, by force and threats, under the pretext that the House of Representatives had previously taken a decision to appoint a new governor.”

The Council stressed in a statement today, Saturday, that “when it takes decisions regarding assignment or dismissal from various sovereign positions, the purpose of these decisions is reform, combating negligence, fighting corruption or the expiration of the legal term, and their implementation is through sound legal and administrative means in accordance with the applicable legislation, and the purpose is not to infiltrate the bank’s coffers and loot them by expelling a governor and empowering another governor under threat and armed force outside the law and the authority of the state after they were unable to break down its doors and enter it by force.”

The statement called on “the Attorney General to confront these actions and take all legal measures to protect the Central Bank of Libya, the bank of all Libyans and the repository of their wealth, from tampering, noting that it is a national and moral responsibility before being a legal obligation.”

The Council also called on the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to “take a clear and serious position against these absurd attempts and to inform the Security Council of the risks threatening the Central Bank of Libya.”
