The House of Representatives Finance Committee recommends achieving comprehensive economic reform

The activities of the Libyan House of Representatives’ Finance Committee symposium, entitled “Economic Policy Reform,” concluded with the issuance of a set of recommendations aimed at achieving comprehensive economic reform.

The economic expert, Maraj Ghaith, who specializes in public spending, discussed “the chaos of public spending and the need to take serious steps to combat corruption.” Dr. Issa Al Farsi also discussed “the importance of diversifying the state’s sources of income and developing state institutions and local companies.”

According to the “Wal” agency, the symposium concluded with a number of recommendations, “including holding a workshop concerned with political reform in the financial, monetary and commercial aspects, working to review financial laws, especially financial, tax and customs laws, and encouraging the private sector in domestic and foreign trade.”

Among the recommendations are: “Also, work on determining the population census of the country to know the available resources and develop an appropriate development plan, while organizing the administrative elements of the country, and the necessity of rationalizing institutional government spending, also diversifying the Libyan economy and not relying on oil as the sole source of income, and developing a clear strategy for economic reform that can be implemented in line with the political situation in Libya, in addition to identifying clear solutions in the short term, and avoiding long-term solutions that are not compatible with the current situation of the Libyan state.”

The symposium witnessed a discussion “about the mechanisms for addressing the economic challenges facing the country, moderated by MP Aisha Al-Tablaqi and Dr. Najwa Al-Aqouri.”
