The House of Representatives follows up on reports on human rights

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee in the House of Representatives, Youssef Al-Aqouri, affirmed the Council’s keenness to follow up on international reports issued regarding human rights, and the work of the relevant executive authorities to respond to them.

Al-Aqouri said, “He reviewed the draft human rights report prepared by the team formed from the House of Representatives, in order to study the report of the United Nations Human Rights Council issued in June 2024, and prepare responses to it.”

Al-Aqouri praised “the team’s work regarding its response to the report in a short period, by arranging a series of consultation sessions with relevant local authorities, most notably the Council of Rights and Freedoms, the Justice and Human Rights Committee, the Ministry of Interior, and the Civil Society Commission, in addition to reviewing the legislation issued related to human rights.” man”.

He explained that “there are a number of positive things in the human rights issue undertaken by the State of Libya, which the United Nations report neglected to mention, such as receiving displaced persons from Sudan, easing procedures regarding illegal immigrants, reconstruction in all regions of Libya, and supporting the appointed Libyan government, For reconciliation in the south, and the participation of the armed forces in the humanitarian response.”

He stressed “the importance of studying international reports, and preparing responses to them in parallel with work, to promote human rights in Libya, in order to block any external interference, improve the image of Libyan institutions abroad, confirm the principle of the rule of law, and enhance the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitutional Declaration and applicable legislation.”
