The National Human Rights Commission has urged not to file cases and convicts indiscriminately.
According to a press release of the Commission on Wednesday (September 4), the public is relieved by the results of the anti-discrimination student movement and coup. The nation is grateful for the sacrifice of the students in this movement. On the other hand, many cases are being filed in the hope of justice regarding the loss of life. But, in particular, it has been observed recently that there are accusations of taking immoral benefits by filing cases and defendants in cases of loss of life and casualties. It is also known that in many cases, anonymous persons have been accused and false statements have been made. Cases are losing acceptance and being questioned due to various inconsistencies. As a result of the cases, on the one hand, the aggrieved person or family is facing deprivation of justice, on the other hand, many innocent people can also become victims of harassment. As a result, many people in the society have become scared.
The chairman of the National Human Rights Commission has called upon everyone to ensure that arbitrary arrests do not occur even if a case is filed.
According to the commission, it is known from the media that 297 people including prominent lawyers and well-known journalists have been charged in the case of killing a young man named Imran Hossain in Jatrabari of the capital. Besides, the police personnel working in the non-operational units of the police have also been made accused in the case. A case has been filed accusing the top businessman of June’s death as having been killed in the August agitation. Some from outside the country have been accused of ‘shooting from the spot’. In the same incident, a case has been filed with different statements and names of different accused. Arbitrary conviction weakens the cases and prevents identification of the real culprits.
Inconsistent and objective cases are by no means desirable. In this context, the National Human Rights Commission has called for cases to be filed only on the basis of reliable information and specific complaints. Besides, the commission urged not to make random arrests only if there is a case.
In this regard, the chairman of the National Human Rights Commission. Kamal Uddin Ahmed said that it is not desirable to file a case by accusing the accused arbitrarily and randomly. It is unethical and a violation of human rights. Cases need to be objective. It is the responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure justice by establishing facts and bringing the guilty to justice and freeing the innocent from harassment. Informational inconsistencies and inconsistencies weaken the case. If the case is not prosecuted with proper scrutiny, the real culprits may get away and hinder the families of the victims from getting justice.
The press release also said that the National Human Rights Commission attaches utmost importance to ensuring justice. The commission welcomes the government’s commitment to properly comply with the prevailing laws and not to make random arrests as soon as a case is filed. The Human Rights Commission believes that if everyone works on the basis of cooperation and solidarity, a stable situation will be created soon and the human rights of the people will be guaranteed.
