The husband of a missing Massachusetts mother was arrested Sunday in connection with her disappearance, more than a week after the woman went missing. Brian Walsh was charged with misleading police after his wife, Anna Walsh, failed to board her plane to Washington.

Anna, a real estate agent and mother of three, disappeared after getting into an Uber cab on New Year’s Day, bound for Boston’s Logan International Airport. “During the investigation, police developed probable cause to believe that her husband Brian misled police investigators,” it said. According to the New York Post report, Brian has a history with law enforcement. He pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges in 2021 after stealing two authentic Andy Warhol paintings from his friend and trying to pass them off as fakes, according to court documents obtained by NBC Boston.

Brian reportedly told the rightful owner of two “Shadow” series paintings that he would sell them for a good price. However, the friend was unable to contact Brian after taking the paintings, and never recovered the hundreds of thousands of dollars they were worth.

Brian then took pictures of the actual paintings and posted them on eBay. The FBI investigation began after a buyer found them in 2016 and tried to buy them for $80,000. After collecting them, the buyer noticed that none of them came with the authentication stamps promised in the listing and noticed that the fabric looked new.

Brian was arrested in 2018. Three years later, he pleaded guilty to fraud. Anna was listed in court documents as Brian’s wife.

Brian Walsh reported Anna missing on Wednesday, three days after she disappeared. She booked a ride to the airport last Sunday at 4am, but never got on the plane. A friend testified that Anna had gone to Washington, D.C. for real estate work. Her real estate agency reported her missing that day.

As many as 20 Special Forces soldiers trained in search and rescue operations, three police K9 teams and a police helicopter searched the family’s home on Saturday, according to NBC Boston. State police divers also searched a small creek and drained the pond at Walsh’s home.

A fire broke out at the family’s former home on Jerusalem Road in Cohasset on Friday. However, officials believe the fire does not appear to be related to the missing mother and the fire was accidental due to a natural gas fireplace.
