The 55-year-old tourist was punished by the police in the early hours of Saturday last week in Fontana dei Catchumeni, which is located in a small and picturesque square in the Monti neighborhood.
The fountain, built by Battista Rossoni in 1959, is a popular destination for locals and tourists, who tend to gather around it at night, but on Friday access to it was blocked.
According to the report in “Calcalist”, the tourist was not aware that he was committing a crime when he sat down next to the fountain.
