Disneyland reports yesterday (Friday) that the iconic facility at the “It’s a Small World” amusement park will be joined by two new dolls in wheelchairs – for the first time in the park located in Anaheim, California in its 67-year history.

One doll will appear in the South American part, while the other will sit among the dolls around the world in the part that sends the entertainers to end the installation with one last song. Erin Quintana, who is responsible for accessibility at the Disneyland resort, told CNN that Disney came up with the idea for her staff a few months ago.

Quintania, who is also in a wheelchair, said she tried to make the transformation look as authentic as possible. “I feel that I am seen. I feel that I am represented. This is an important moment for my community to be represented. I cried when I saw them at the facility,” Quintania described her feeling.

“We are constantly looking to improve our attractions, and not only with fun things, but also with meaningful things. We try to stay updated, especially, to do new things,” said Kim Irwin, Disneyland’s creative director.
World Disney in Florida and Euro Disney in Paris will also benefit from the upgrade in the facility during the year 2023.
