Sometimes the cost of living in Israel stems from monopolies in a certain field, sometimes the government intends to protect local producers, and sometimes it’s just because the state of Israel sometimes behaves like a dream state.
The CEO of the pharmaceutical chain “Good Pharm”, Adam Friedler, revealed today what happened to him when he intended to import diapers from Europe and sell them cheaply in Israel. Lee made it clear to me why it will never be cheap here,” he told the Marciano Foundation in a savings plan.

“In my naivety, I thought that the need for a standard for diapers in Israel had been eliminated,” says Friedler, “A month ago, my goods arrived in Israel from Europe, and I submitted the documents to receive a standard exemption. I sit and wait for a week or two, and then the Standards Institute gives me the exemption. Not a day goes by and I I receive a message that my containers have been mirrored. I thought it was a matter of a few minutes, but it took more than two more weeks until the representative of the Ministry of Economy, who demanded to open the container and see, arrived.”
Friedler states, “I paid for all these delays, and do you understand that after that it is impossible to sell it at this price? Moreover, it is about diapers of a brand that is the best-selling in Israel, which I bought from a huge marketing chain in Europe. Take it to the Ministry of Economy and explain to the consumer why it is expensive here. ”
