The immigration bill continues to agitate the presidential camp. In particular article 3, supposed to create a residence permit to facilitate the regularization of undocumented workers in professions in shortage. The left wing of Macronie wants to be heard to defend the measure, while the Les Républicains (LR) party has made it one ” Red line “ and threatens not to vote in favor of the text if it is maintained.
However, the provision is being called into question by the executive, which could ultimately favor the creation of a new regularization circular rather than creating a residence permit as of right, through the law. The objective of this new circular would be to allow undocumented workers in professions in shortage to request their regularization themselves, without making a request to the employer, as is currently the case. Aware of the fears of the Macronist troops about the future of this measure, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, met the majority deputies, Tuesday, October 24, during a meeting at the National Assembly, to try to reassure about his project. According to several participants, the minister reiterated that he was “favorable to article 3” and that he supported him, arguing that he was not for a “agreement at all costs” with LR. The appeasement operation is bearing fruit: during this exchange, the Renaissance deputies feel comforted by the position of Mr. Darmanin, which they consider “balanced”.
