Vaccination against coronavirus infection, as a rule, protects the body for six months, however, for young and healthy people, without chronic diseases, the protective period of vaccination can reach nine months. This was announced on November 25 by Nikolay Kryuchkov, General Director of Clinical Excellence Group, Candidate of Medical Sciences, immunologist.

According to him, the Ministry of Health recommends revaccination against COVID-19 six months after the primary vaccination, since after this period the level of antibodies in a person’s blood drops. At the same time, studies show that even six months after vaccination, some people do not have a decrease in their immunity to coronavirus, the expert added.

“There is now a standard revaccination period of six months. I would even say that six to seven months, because a person does not need to be forced to vaccinate on the day of the end of the six-month period. For some young and healthy people without chronic diseases, most likely, after the end of the research, the protective period will be even longer, maybe even eight or nine months, ”the Sputnik radio immunologist said.

Kryuchkov said that there are no final results of studies on the relationship between the level of antibodies and their protective properties, so it is not too early to talk about extending the terms of revaccination.

In conclusion, Kryuchkov emphasized the need to be vaccinated, since today the coronavirus vaccine is the only officially confirmed way to reduce the likelihood of infection and prevent a severe course of the disease.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the proposal of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova to extend the validity of the coronavirus vaccination certificate for COVID-19 patients from six months to a year.

Earlier, on November 12, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation approved the validity period of QR codes for those who had been ill after vaccination. The ministry’s order says that after vaccination, the QR code is valid for a year, after an illness – six months. At the same time, if the vaccinated person is diagnosed with a coronavirus, his digital pass is canceled, and after the end of the disease, it begins to operate for six months. Citizens can receive a certificate of vaccination, past illness or contraindications upon request at the hospital or at the MFC. The electronic version of the document will be available on the portal of public services.

A large-scale vaccination campaign is currently underway in Russia. Citizens are vaccinated for free. Five vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, which became the first vaccine against COVID-19 in the Russian Federation and the world, as well as Sputnik Light, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N and KoviVak.
