According to the analysis, if the majority’s healthcare plans are implemented, healthcare expenditure will double. This revelation is not something political parties can use to their advantage during election times. Doubling healthcare expenditure means a significant increase in healthcare premiums, which is not welcomed by voters. Regardless of the potential benefits such as better rewards for healthcare workers, the abolishment of deductibles, increased nursing home capacity, or the inclusion of oral care for adults in the basic package, voters are not interested in bearing the burden of increased healthcare costs.
Gupta Strategists’ report states that there are no plans in the election manifestos that would result in a lower growth in healthcare expenditure if policies remain unchanged. This implies that cost reduction is no longer the focus. While some parties express a desire to prioritize prevention, involve general practitioners more, and reduce administrative burdens for healthcare providers, financing these ideas without affecting insurance holders seems implausible. Additionally, the question of how these desires will be practically implemented remains unanswered.
