Dressed in the Southern Sami kolt, the teacher demonstrates lasso throwing, which is part of the Sami reindeer husbandry.

– It’s fun to show off in Sami clothes, the children ask a lot of questions and it’s great fun, she says.

The principal about the celebration

– Today we have a little extra focus on the Sami people and their culture, language and history, says the school’s principal Veronica Heller Nilsson.

She also emphasizes that according to the curriculum, every student must gain knowledge about the national minorities, of which the indigenous Sami people are included.
