Information about the non-inclusion of Ioannina in the tourism support programs of the Hellenic Tourism Organization is requested by the prefecture’s tourism agencies from the general secretary of the EOT Dimitris Fragakis.

As stated in a letter, co-signed by the president of the Federation of Apartments and Accommodations for Rent of Epirus Eleftherios Zarkadas, the president of the Association of Tourist Offices and Buses of Ioannina Prefecture Georgios Alexandris and the former president of the Hotel Association of Ioannina Prefecture Stathis Sioutis, Mr. Fragakis, in last year’s of the visit to the region, it was committed to include the destination “Ioannina” in actions of the EOT, regarding the inclusion of the Ioannina airport in the winter tourism support program through connections with foreign destinations and the inclusion of Ioannina in the urban tourism promotion campaign (city break). At the same time, he had shown willingness to support the effort for direct air connections of the Ioannina airport with Germany and Heraklion, Crete. Despite this, a year later EOT implements a co-advertising program in collaboration with various foreign airlines, which includes various destinations but not Ioannina.
The letter states that the destination is one of the most popular winter destinations for both urban escapes and mountain excursions. Furthermore, it is noted that the Prefecture of Ioannina is developed in conference tourism, school tourism, religious tourism, agritourism, outdoor activities and sports tourism, gastronomic tourism and elsewhere.
Based on the above, Mr. Fragakis is asked why the city of Ioannina has not yet joined the urban tourism promotion campaign and why winter destinations, such as the Prefecture of Ioannina, were not included in the co-advertising program implemented by the EOT. The letter closes with thanks to the general secretary for his willingness so far to listen to the concerns of tourism operators.
