The indexation of pensions to inflation, a costly measure

by time news

According to the Sapiens Institute, it could amount to up to 17 billion euros in a full year.

It’s a promise from Emmanuel Macron that could be expensive! Faced with soaring prices, the President of the Republic has undertaken to advance this summer the revaluation of pensions, which normally takes place each year on 1is January. A boost of 4% was announced for pensions paid from August. And yet, this rate is not definitively stopped: it could be revised upwards while inflation experienced a further acceleration in France in May, to 5.2% over one year.

For the record, this revaluation only concerns the basic pension – that paid by the Secu – but not the Agirc-Arrco supplementary pensions, which nevertheless weigh heavily (up to 60%) in the retirement of executives. These are managed by the social partners, who must meet in June to decide what to do. For civil servants, who have no additional, the entire pension would a priori be concerned.
