The Indian giant is awakening – 4X4 The Israeli off-road site

by time news

The automotive industry in India is developing and correspondingly, the supply of locally produced SUVs is also increasing. Although it is not about tools that are the peak of technology, but those that come to give work. And they know how to do it

The leadership of the table of the most populated countries in the world is divided between two countries: China and India. Both have close to 1.5 billion people (the exact numbers are unknown, these are estimates), but while China leads the world ranking in GDP with 23 trillion dollars a year, India lags behind, with “only” 8.5 trillion. This gap also exists in the automobile industry : About 26 million cars were produced in China in 2021, in India only about 4.5 million. But while in most countries where vehicles are produced the numbers decreased during the Corona years, in India there was actually a boom and today it is the fourth largest car manufacturer in the world, overtaking countries like Germany and South Korea .

And as the car industry grew, so did the range of models. We have already presented here the Force Gorkha (link to the article) and the Mahindra Tar (link to the article), and now these two models, which until now were produced only with three doors, will get bigger brothers with five doors. Apart from the extra length, there will be no other changes to the two vehicles, which will stick with a tough ladder chassis, rear live axle and power-geared transfer case.

Mahindra Tar with 5 doors

Another vehicle that is likely to get a five-door version is the Maruti Jimny. Maruti manufactures Suzuki models under license, including the Vitara and the Jimny. Rumors about a five-door model of the Jimny have been circulating for a long time (link to the article), and now it seems that the matter has reached maturity. Here too there will be no major changes beyond the length and the additional doors, but a more powerful engine may be offered due to the added weight. Will we see him here too? still not clear.

Jimny with five. Maybe with us

Mahindra has other models of off-road vehicles such as the Roxor which it manufactures in the USA (link to the article), the Scorpio, the Bolero, theXUV700 and-XUV300. Force is content with the Gorka for now, but it is possible that more models will arrive soon. And let’s not forget Tata, another large Indian manufacturer (which also owns Land Rover), which today only produces soft crossovers, but is in advanced processes of developing electric SUVs, which at least on paper look promising.

Future. Tata Sierra electric sweeper

Most of the car production in India is currently directed to the local market, but if a day comes when the manufacturers look for new markets, and meet the necessary standards, maybe we will get tough tools with off-road capabilities – at prices equal to everyone.
