Watan Al-Youm: The general consumer price index (inflation) increased by 1.73 percent from the beginning of this year to the end of last August, reaching 110.54, compared to 108.67 for the same period of the previous year.
The monthly report of the Department of General Statistics showed on Wednesday that among the most significant groups of commodities that contributed to the increase in the cumulative consumer price index until the end of August this year, compared to the same period of the previous year, was. the increase in the index for the personal effects group by 9.70 percent Water and sanitation at a rate of 7.34 percent, contributions to trade unions at a rate of 5.86 percent, dry and canned vegetables and legumes at a rate of 4.72 percent, and rents at a rate of 5.86 percent. rate of 3.92 percent.
At the same time, the general consumer price index for August this year rose to 111.17 points, compared to 109.13 points for the same month last year, recording an increase of 1.87 percent.
The increase in the general consumer price index for August 2024 compared to the same month in 2023 mainly contributed to collections of personal baggage 15.41 percent, dry and canned vegetables and legumes 9.67 percent, water and sanitation 7.34 percent, and contributions to the trade unions at 5.86 percent Culture and entertainment 5.07 percent, while furniture, carpets and bedding groups contributed to the decrease in the increase by 3.01 percent, oils and fats 2.07 percent, clothing 1.58 percent, and housing maintenance services 1.42 percent.
According to the report, the index increased by 0.15 percent for August of the current year, reaching 111.17, compared to 111.00 for the previous month of the same year.
When comparing the general consumer price index for August compared to the previous July, the dry and canned vegetables and legumes group contributed 8.02 percent, personal effects 2.54 percent, dairy products and eggs 1.26 percent, and spices, food enhancers, and other foods at 0.99 percent.
