“The ink of courage”: The poignant autobiographical work by Jean-Fidèle Otandault

by time news

DIG/ The timing and the political context would immediately have led us to believe in a work testifying to the events of August 30, 2023 and the shift of the country into the era of transition. Or, as some predicted, to take a position on the heated debate linked to the new constitution and the upcoming referendum.

But that’s not the case.

Through his very first literary work entitled “The ink of courage. From the blank page to political destiny »Jean-Fidèle Otandaut (59 years old) delivers a poignant autobiographical story rich in anecdotes, about his life, his professional career and his unexpected entry into the political arena.

A hymn to perseverance, courage and work that the author wants to transmit through his personal story, to current and future generations intoxicated by ambition “at all, immediately”.

A 123-page work which immerses you in 3-4 hours of reading into the world of a carefree young boy from an underprivileged neighborhood of Port-Gentil, ” ripped off “ very young in the hands of his maternal grandmother by his father from Benin before returning to the banks of the Seine where he will forge one of the most exceptional professional careers of the Gabonese of his generation.

The first Gabonese registered on the Order of Chartered Accountants of Paris-Ile-de-France, Jean-Fidèle Otandault will have a career as brilliant as it is dazzling, occupying key positions in the most prestigious companies in France (Senior accountant at the Banque Générale de Commerce de Paris, financial director within the Total group, etc.).

Certainly before the big change in his life in 2010-2011 when he was courted in Paris by a certain…Ali Bongo Ondimba, freshly elected president of the Republic of Gabon, who insisted, at all costs, on entrusting him with the mission of reforming the accounts of the State.

Hesitant at first because attached to his entrepreneurial freedom and the contractual commitments of the accounting firm he founded, Jean-Fidèle Otandault nevertheless gave in to the call of the homeland.

“I, son of a Beninese immigrant and a Gabonese mother, me the Gabonese of mixed blood, raised by my maternal grandmother, son of the Grand-village, deprived district of Port-Gentil, my miraculous reality is not not at the end of my dreams!!.

The president expected me to transfer into public management the processes in force in the private sector where we are accustomed to permanent performance evaluations. Therein lay the true interest of my mission. Legitimizing the State became my essential rule of life”, he says.

So in 2011, he was appointed Director General of Financial Control. In 2013, the Presidency entrusted him with leading the reform of budgetary control and subsequently became Director General of the Directorate for the Control of Resources and Public Charges (DGCRCP).

At the end of 20214, he was promoted to Director General of Budget and Public Finance (DGBFIP), the result of the merger of 3 strategic departments.

In 2017, it’s the consecration. He entered the government as Minister of State in charge of the Budget and Public Accounts before occupying two years later in 2019, the post of Minister of Investment in charge of public-private partnership.

In 2018, he was elected deputy of 2e district of Port-Gentil.

It is all this life experience that the author, passionate about reading and gastronomy, wishes to offer as a testimony to young people and more broadly to all people who still doubt their abilities and who are in perpetual search for inspiration in order to realize their biggest dream.
