The International Olympic Committee approves the dismissal of Raad Hamoudi and considers it an “internal matter”

/ Acting head of the Olympic Committee, Aqeel Muftan, announced on Sunday that the International Olympic Committee had agreed to dismiss the head of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, Raad Hamoudi, while revealing the imminent establishment of the Supreme Iraqi Olympic Council to develop Olympic work in Iraq.

Muftan said in a press conference attended by correspondent, “We received a message from the International Olympic Committee stating the approval of the General Assembly’s decision to dismiss the President of the Olympic Committee in the session held on December 5th.”

“The International Olympic Committee considered this matter an internal matter and we respect all the decisions issued by the General Assembly and deal with them officially,” Muftin added, stressing: “The sports circles in Iraq hope that the reality of Olympic sports in Iraq will change after the change witnessed by the extraordinary session which resulted in the dismissal of President Hamoudi on December 5th.”

Muftan explained that “the committee will adopt, from today, the principle of reward and punishment in dealing with all federations affiliated with the Iraqi Olympic Committee according to the powers granted to us as an executive office,” adding, “I will manage the executive office of the Olympic Committee as first deputy and according to the internal regulations of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee until the official elections are held at a later time.”

Muftan announced the “imminent establishment of the Iraqi Supreme Olympic Council, which will include a large elite of experts and academics, in addition to specialized committees that include artistic figures to develop Olympic work in Iraq, in addition to the intention to attract a talent scout from the French Olympics to work officially as a talent developer in all sports.”

At the end of his speech, he stressed the “necessity of paying attention to the infrastructure, indicating that he will work to obtain official approval to allocate a 200-acre plot of land to all Iraqi national federations.”
