As part of the global autism awareness campaign “Blue for Autism”, the Speech Therapy Department of the University of Ioannina, with the assistance of the Municipality of Ioannina, lit up the City Hall of Ioannina in blue.


This is an action, which is part of the “Light it up Blue” initiative, where hundreds of buildings and historical monuments around the world are lit up in blue. It is a global effort to end discrimination against people with autism, a developmental disorder affecting a growing population.
The action, which took place on Tuesday afternoon, was attended by the secretary of the municipal council of the Municipality of Ioannina and president of the Disabled Association Kypseli Lula Verbi, members of the Board of Directors. of the Association and the president of the Regional Federation of Disabled Persons of Epirus and North Ionian Islands Maria Skandali.
“World Autism Awareness Day highlights the different ways of communication that are right next to us. Every diversity must find the door of communication open and this must be the responsibility and care of all of us. Specifically, on the part of us, the disability organizations, to claim and highlight the issues of all groups with deviations, and on the part of the Local Government, the organization of inclusion and invitation actions and the creation of targeted structures”, said Mrs. Verbi.
Maria Skandali focused on the need to have structures mainly for adults with autism in the exchange of views with other disability agencies.
