/ Today, Thursday, the Iraqi Handball Federation named coach Dhafer Sahib to lead the national handball team for the upcoming elections, succeeding Egyptian coach Moamen Sharif, who resigned a month before his contract expired, while the latter stated that the federation wanted to renew the contract with him for only 21 days.

Hossam Abdel Reda, a member of the media office, told Agency, “The Federation named the coach Dhafer Sahib after the Egyptian coach Moamen Sharif apologized for continuing the journey leading the national team.”

He stated, “The Iraqi national team will begin training under the supervision of coach Dhafer Sahib, starting tomorrow, in preparation for the Asian qualifiers for the World Cup.”

For his part, the Egyptian coach revealed the reason for his resignation a month before his contract expired, explaining that “his contract expires on the 31st of next December while the World Cup qualifiers, which will take place in Bahrain, begin at the beginning of January next year, that is, after the end of his contract.”

He added, “The Iraqi Handball Federation wanted to renew with me for a period of three weeks until the end of the qualifying tournament,” noting that it “completely rejected the offer and decided to submit my resignation even though there was still approximately a month remaining in the contract term.”

It is noteworthy that Sherif Moamen is one of the members of the golden generation of the Egyptian national team that won the fourth World Cup in 2001, the winner of the World Youth Championship in 1993, and one of the best wings in the history of Egyptian handball.
