The Iraqi youth team loses to the Australian Olympic team in the West Asian Championship

/ The Iraqi youth team failed, this evening, Wednesday, to qualify for the semi-finals of the West Asian Football Championship, after losing to the Australian Olympic Club, in the fourth group competitions of the tournament, which is conducted in a knockout manner.

The match was held at Abdullah bin Jalawi Stadium in Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, and ended with Australia winning 2-1.

The first half ended with the Australian team leading by two goals to none against the Iraqi team, and in the second half the Iraqi team was able to score a goal to reduce the difference through player Halkurd Qais.

With today’s result, the Australian team qualified for the semi-finals, while the Iraqi team will play the match to determine the positions from fifth to eighth.

The Iraqi team was led by assistant coach Hassan Turki due to the punishment imposed by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) on the team’s main coach, Imad Muhammad, against the backdrop of a complaint by media personality Mona Sami.

The 2024 West Asian Federation Cup will be held in the Saudi city of Al-Ahsa for the period from March 20, with the participation of 8 teams: Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and the UAE from the West Asia region in the tournament, while the West Asia Federation sent invitations to a number of teams outside the region. To participate as guests in the tournament, most notably: Egypt, South Korea, Thailand, and Australia.
