The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, the elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces) has confirmed a massive UAV attack on Israel.

“In response to the crimes of the Zionist regime (meaning Israel – TASS note), the IRGC military space forces hit certain targets in the occupied territories, firing dozens of missiles and drones,” the state news agency IRNA quotes the text of the statement, Day.Az reports with link to TASS.

According to the IRGC statement, the Israeli crime included “an attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus,” which led to “the martyrdom of Iranian military personnel.”

Prior to this, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that Iran had launched a UAV in its direction. The department noted that the air defense system and the armed forces have been put on high alert.

On April 13, Iran launched unmanned aerial vehicles towards Israel. After this, Prime Minister of the Jewish State Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel has been preparing for a possible attack from Iran for many years and is ready for any development of events, both defensively and offensively.

The conflict in the Middle East escalated after Israel launched an attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus in early April, resulting in the complete destruction of the building.

Previously, the United States promised Israel support in the event of an Iranian attack.
