The Jaffna Metropolitan Council’s interim chief election meeting has been postponed!

Jaffna Municipal Council Interim Chief Minister selection meeting postponed due to lack of quorum.

The Northern Province Local Government Commissioner S. Pranavanathan has postponed the meeting by saying that the new date for the election will be announced soon.

The meeting to elect a new Interim Chief Minister for the remainder of the Jaffna Municipal Council’s term began today at 10:00 am under the chairmanship of Northern Province Local Government Commissioner C. Pranavanathan.

However, due to lack of quorum required for the meeting, the Local Government Commissioner announced that the meeting will start at 10:30.

Today’s meeting

Some members of the Manivannan faction of the Tamil National People’s Front did not enter the Sabha hall and sat in the audience area.

When the meeting resumed at 10:30 as announced by the Local Government Commissioner, only 19 members were present in the Sabha Hall.

In this case, due to the lack of quorum for the meeting, today’s meeting will be postponed and the new date for the selection will be announced soon, Northern Province Local Government Commissioner C. Pranavanathan adjourned the meeting.

Former Chief Minister Emmanuel Arnold lost his position after the second reading of the 2023 budget presented on the 28th was defeated without a majority.

In order to fill that void, the Northern Province Local Government Commissioner had called a meeting on Friday 10th today.
