Lucasfilm’s “Ahsoka” Season Finale Delivers Big Moments for “Star Wars” Fans

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains spoilers for the season finale of “Ahsoka,” titled “The Jedi, the Witch and the Warlord,” now streaming on Disney+.

With the finale of “Ahsoka,” the latest chapter of the “Star Wars” TV universe has come to a close, and it certainly didn’t disappoint for fans of “Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels.” The episode, titled “The Jedi, the Witch and the Warlord,” delivered on some long-awaited moments that have been years in the making.

The bittersweet finale sees Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) escaping into space, while Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) and Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) find themselves stranded on the planet Peridea. However, there is a glimmer of hope as Ezra (Eman Esfandi) reunites with his crewmate Hera (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) for the first time since his disappearance in the “Rebels” series finale.

The episode kicks off with Thrawn and the creepy Nightsisters bestowing a “gift of shadows” upon Morgan Elspeth (Diana Lee Inosanto), transforming her into one of the evil witches. They also bring forth the Blade of Talzin, a powerful weapon previously wielded by the Nightsisters’ leader Mother Talzin in “The Clone Wars.”

Ahsoka, Ezra, and Sabine gear up for a battle against Thrawn, the Nightsisters, and their army of Night Troopers on Peridea. Ezra constructs a new blue lightsaber, modeled after his late mentor Kanan Jarrus from “Rebels,” and the trio launch an assault on Thrawn’s Star Destroyer before he can escape. However, they soon discover a formidable problem: the Nightsisters have the ability to resurrect fallen soldiers with dark magic.

Undeterred, the Jedi press on, cutting through hordes of undead Night Troopers. Ahsoka wields her twin white lightsabers, Ezra fights with his new saber, and Sabine uses Ezra’s old green saber. As they approach Morgan, Sabine faces off against one of the zombies, showcasing her newfound ability to use the Force. With a swift move, she decapitates the creature, saving herself.

Sabine’s Force powers continue to impress when she and Ezra must make an impossible jump to board Thrawn’s Star Destroyer. Despite only being halfway there, Sabine utilizes the Force to safely launch Ezra onto the vessel. Rather than joining him, Sabine returns to help Ahsoka, resulting in a flashy lightsaber duel that ends in Morgan’s demise.

However, victory is short-lived as Thrawn orders the Star Destroyer to rain lasers down on Ahsoka and Sabine. Their ship is in dire need of repair, but luckily, their trusty droid Huyang (David Tennant) manages to fix it just in time. As Ahsoka desperately chases after Thrawn, he taunts her with reminders of her former master Anakin Skywalker’s dark fate before escaping into hyperspace. Defeated, Ahsoka and Sabine must turn back to Peridea.

The episode concludes by revealing Thrawn’s final destination: Dathomir, the home of the Nightsisters. Ahsoka and Sabine, now stranded on Peridea, will need to be rescued in order to stop him and his sinister plans with the Nightsisters. The fate of our heroes may lie with Ezra, who disguises himself as a Stormtrooper and heads off to reunite with Hera and the Resistance. The show ends with Sabine sensing “shadows in the starlight” throughout the galaxy, while Ahsoka gazes off into the distance as a Force ghost of Anakin (Hayden Christensen) watches over them.

The season finale of “Ahsoka” had fans on the edge of their seats, and it sets the stage for even more thrilling adventures in the “Star Wars” universe. Fans can’t wait to see what comes next for their beloved characters.
