Giuseppe Tesauro no longer. One of the most authoritative and esteemed figures, even at an international level, of the great school of Neapolitan jurists, he left last night at the age of 78. Lawyer, teacher for entire generations of magistrates, lawyers and teachers, he was president emeritus of the Constitutional Court and former president of the Antitrust Authority. Cassation lawyer and expert in EU law, he practiced at the Carnelutti law firm, one of the best known in the Italian capital. Since 1987, Tesauro has been a member of the Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Litigation Council. In September 1988, he was appointed Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Communities, taking over from another Italian, Federico Mancini, who was appointed judge on that occasion. From 31 March 2016 to 25 June 2018 he was Chairman of Banca Carige. Sharp and elegant in his irony, for many friends he had remained the Bepi of his youth. As soon as he heard the news of his death, the rector of Suor Orsola Benincasa, Lucio D’Alessandro, made it known that he had proposed to the academic bodies that the large hall already in the name of Alfonso Tesauro, his father, also an eminent jurist, is entitled also to the memory of Giuseppe Tesauro.
