The Kaaba was clothed with a new Kiswah; Muharram 1 for the first time in history

At the birth of the new Hijra year, the Kaaba in Mecca was dressed in a new Kiswa. The new Kiswa was delivered from the King Abdul Aziz Kiswa Complex. The new Kiswa was made by 166 technicians and artisans. The four-hour long ceremony was telecast live. (Saudi Arabia replaces Kaaba’s Kiswa on Muharram 1)

The new Kiswa was put on by a team from the King Abdul Aziz Kiswa Complex. Iruharam Office Head Dr. Abdurrahman Alsudais presided over the ceremony. This is the first time in history that Kiswa Muharram has been moved to 1. These ceremonies are usually performed on the 9th of Dhul Hajj. On the order of King Salman, it was decided to dress the Kaaba with a new Kiswa on Muharram 1.

It is believed that these are the ceremonies performed by Prophet Muhammad and his companions. The Kiswa will feature Quranic verses and Islamic handicrafts. About 850 kg of silk is used to make Kiswa. These will be completely painted black. 120 kg of gold and 100 kg of silver will be used for the construction of Kiswa. Kiswa will be 14 meters tall.
