With the price of electricity skyrocketing, control of consumption has become a key issue in homes. Hence, in many of them the oven is used less and less, one of the electrical appliances with high energy consumption that we can do without. Sometimes it is replaced by an air fryer, whose main incentive for its use is its low need for oil, but also an intensive use of energy.

The OCU calculated in March that using the air fryer two hours a week costs 1.8 euros per month, compared to 2.8 for a traditional oven, 3.2 for an oil fryer and more than 4 for the induction hob. However, for this estimate to fit in our home, two variables must be taken into account: the size of the fryer and the time it will be working.

The power of air fryers is linked to their size. There are 1.5 liters but also eleven, so their consumption can range from 700 watts to 2,000. To find a middle ground, the power of the five-liter air fryer is generally 1,700 watts. Compared to it, domestic ovens have a power of between 1,200 and 2,500 watts. In other words, there are fryers that generate more consumption than some ovens, so the key is the time of use.

This is where the fryer wins points… as long as we get the size right. The opposite implies having to cook in batches and, therefore, multiplying the time of use. If that family of four has to make French fries and chicken wings in two (or even three) batches of ten or fifteen minutes for each batch and dish, the fryer is a good option compared to the oven, which, although input consumes more has more capacity.
