The “Khan Train” plan in Israel has been approved: it will include 450 units, including sheltered housing

by time news

The District Committee in Jerusalem approved the “Khan Train” plan in the capital, after a discussion of objections. The plan for the complex, which is located near Yes Planet, will include 450 housing units, of which about 250 units are for sheltered housing, as well as commerce in a mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented urban space.

The plan promoted by the Israel Lands Authority is located south of the old train station in an area of about 30 dunams. It stretches between the streets of Hebron Road in the east, Miriam Hashmonaite in the south, Bethlehem Road and Hamsila Park. The plan covers an area of about 30 dunams, with residences of about 18,500 square meters, sheltered housing of about 19,400 square meters in a saturated construction with a height of about 5-10 floors. North of the plan, the city’s third train station is planned to be built in about 10 years, after the Yitzhak Navon station at the entrance to the capital, and a station is planned in the Yodika Square area in the center of the city.

In the planning, emphasis was placed on an urban fabric with mixed uses, biased towards walking, which is linked to its surroundings and integrates into the existing environment. The complex offers a mix of uses that includes residences in a diverse mix including sheltered housing and commerce alongside open spaces and a peripheral public system biased towards pedestrians.

The plan was drawn up by the architects Naama Melis and Amir Elkhofer from the “Naama Melis Architecture and City Planning” office.

Yaakov Quint, director of the Israel Land Authority: “The advantage of the plan is that it will allow tenants free movement without the need to move in an attached private vehicle. RMI works to remove barriers in land marketing and provide wide-ranging solutions to increase the supply of housing units all over the country.”
