The Kingdom, represented by the General Commission for Survey and Geospatial Information, headed by the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Muhammad bin Yahya Al Sayel, Chairman of the Arab Committee of United Nations Experts for Geospatial Information Management, participated in the first meeting of the International Advisory Committee of the United Nations Global Center for Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation in Decking – China.

The meeting discussed the agenda and reviewed the experiences of some member states, where China presented its experience in developing survey work and producing maps, and the importance of geospatial information in enabling monitoring of the achievement of sustainable development goals and the integration of geospatial and statistical information and international services and applications that it provides through satellites for the purposes of discovery and management. Land resources and the application of GIS in regional planning.

For its part, the Kingdom reviewed the experience of the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information in aligning the national geospatial strategy that it is developing with the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (IGIF), in addition to the steps to build its national geospatial strategy and the importance of the nine strategic paths that make up the Integrated Framework (IGIF), which are the path of governance, policies , the financial aspect, data, standards, innovation, partnerships, education and capacity building, communication, which will provide guidelines for addressing challenges in the survey and geospatial information sector.

The meeting also discussed the activation of the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (IGIF) and its implementation at the level of Member States, and discussed some of the existing initiatives through the work teams of the high-level team of the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework, as well as the basic principles of the United Nations Global Center for Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation.
