Russia’s complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) is due to the lack of reaction of this organization and is natural, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“The Kremlin’s attitude to this issue cannot be considered separately from the appeal to the ECHR. After all, this is the Russian side, the Russian Federation has applied. This is absolutely natural treatment, which is provided by the rules of this international organization. We really do not have a reaction from this organization on many issues. Within the framework of the norms established by this organization, Russia is taking action, ”Peskov told reporters.

On July 22, Russia filed an interstate complaint with the ECHR against Ukraine. In particular, it draws attention to the responsibility of the Ukrainian authorities for the death of civilians, illegal imprisonment and ill-treatment of people in Kiev and Odessa in 2014, as well as in the Donbass during the so-called “anti-terrorist operation”; suppression of freedom of speech and persecution of dissidents by banning the work of media and Internet platforms, persecution of journalists, politicians and ordinary citizens; discrimination against the Russian-speaking population, Russian companies and entrepreneurs, displacement of the use of the Russian language from the public sphere.

In addition, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, which filed a complaint against Kiev, noted that Ukraine blocks the supply of fresh water to Crimea through the North Crimean Canal, deprives residents of the southeast of the country from participating in elections to the central authorities and refuses to cooperate with the Russian investigative authorities in investigating crimes.
