Moscow will continue contacts with Yerevan and clarify the situation regarding its continued membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov told reporters about this.

He was asked about this in the context of statements by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The politician said that Yerevan will leave the CSTO if this structure does not fulfill its obligations and does not recognize its area of responsibility.

“Of course, we have heard these statements. Of course, there is a lot of work ahead. We need contacts both within the CSTO and at the bilateral level with our Armenian partners. We will clarify and talk in line with the statements made by Mr. Prime Minister [Армении]”- said the Kremlin representative. Peskov did not answer the question of how the CSTO views such statements by Pashinyan, pointing out the inappropriateness of the wording itself. “This needs to be asked in the CSTO. It’s not for us to speak on behalf of the CSTO,” noted the press secretary of the Russian President.

In a similar way, he responded to the question whether the current situation could become a reason for an extraordinary summit of the organization. “Again, this is something that the CSTO must decide. Of course, there is some work to be done within the CSTO,” the Kremlin representative concluded.
