The Kremlin continues the narrative of aggression against Ukraine as a substitute and defensive war against NATO, the government plenipotentiary for the security of the information space of the Republic of Poland, Stanisław Żaryn, told PAP. That is why it also distorts or selectively selects Western publications, he added.

The secretary of state in the prime minister’s office stressed on Saturday in an interview with PAP that in order to make this long-term operation of presenting Russia’s aggression against Ukraine credible as a proxy and defensive war with NATO, he more often refers to Western publications, which he first distorts or selects selectively.

Summing up the Kremlin’s recent propaganda activity, he said that the Russians have recently intensified disinformation activities aimed at creating the image of the Ukrainian soldier as a sadistic murderer, ruthless towards civilians and Russian prisoners of war.

“At the same time, Russian propaganda shocks with the brutality of the Russians on the battlefield in order to gain psychological advantage and achieve the effect of intimidation, which are to weaken the potential of the Ukrainian message about readiness to carry out a counter-offensive,” Żaryn told PAP on Saturday.

“Kremlin propaganda continues to spread lies about Polish support for Ukraine. In the eyes of the Russians, under the guise of empathy and partnership, Warsaw is de facto consistently implementing a secret plan to annex western Ukrainian lands,” emphasized the minister at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

He added that the Kremlin had recently reinforced the false message that Poland was forcing the West to continue its involvement in military aid for Ukraine. “In terms of Russian propaganda, this is a deliberate action calculated to prolong the war,” he pointed out.

The deputy minister coordinator of secret services told PAP that Russian propaganda, supported by the Belarusian apparatus of influence, continued the operation of discrediting Poland as an aggressive country in the region. He assessed that this lying message in the information domain is addressed especially to Poland’s neighbors in order to separate us from neighboring countries.

“These activities are not based only on materials by Kremlin or Minsk propagandists. Both regimes also use the technique of selective selection and promotion of content that discredits Poland and is the product of Polish participants in the public debate or pro-Russian commentators from the West, Minister Żaryn told PAP.

According to him, Russia maintains propaganda and disinformation activities aimed at discouraging the free world from supporting Ukraine’s defense effort.

“On the one hand, the Russians argue that Western armaments do not increase the capabilities of the Ukrainian army, and on the other hand, they intimidate the West with the vision of escalating the war,” he noted.

The regime in Minsk, echoing the Russian propaganda, continues to justify tightening military cooperation with Russia with the alleged threat, especially from Poland, as well as Lithuania and Ukraine.

“Entities involved in Belarusian propaganda activities have increased their activity in the promotion of manipulation and disinformation about Poland in the context of the +migration crisis+” – told PAP the government plenipotentiary for the security of the information space of the Republic of Poland. “An important element of these activities is the growing share of mentions of bodies and deaths of migrants at the border in messages” – noted Żaryn.
