| The Laden family’s donation to Prince Charles’ organization

London: Britain’s Crown Prince Charles (73), reportedly received a donation from the family of Al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden. The Sunday Times reported that the voluntary statement led by Charles received money for charity from the Laden family in Saudi Arabia.

The family donated to Charles’ organization two years after Bin Laden, the mastermind of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that shocked the world, was killed by American intelligence.

The Laden family handed over one million pounds (about Rs. 10 crore) to the Prince of Wales Charitable Fund (PWCF), which is headed by Charles. The paper also reports that Charles decided to accept the amount in 2013, rejecting the objections of the trust’s advisers. The decision to accept the money was made in a meeting with Bakr bin Laden, a senior member of the Laden family and bin Laden’s half-brother, at Clarence House in London. The advisers of the foundation had warned that if this matter came out, the prince’s reputation would be damaged internationally.

The prince did not accept the advice to get out of trouble by returning the money. The prince defended the objections by arguing that the family was not responsible for the individual’s crimes. At the same time, Foundation Chairman Ian Cheshire revealed that Charles did not take the decision alone in accepting the donation, and that the move was approved by the Foundation’s five trustees at the time.

The foundation was established in 1986 under the leadership of Charles. It is a registered charity under the Scottish Charity Regulation, although it does not operate under the control of the Charities Commission.

The new revelation comes at a time when allegations are being raised against other charity organizations led by Charles. Last February, the British police began an investigation against such an organization, which was suspected of fundraising related to Saudi businessman Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz.

The foundation’s chief executive, Michael Fawcett, resigned last year over the same financial deal.

The resignation came after Fawcett’s relationship with a Saudi businessman was reported in the media. In the name of special interests, the Saudi businessman had donated a large amount to Charles’s foundation.

It was alleged that Fawcett, who was in close contact with the prince and the royal family, was behind the deal.

It was also revealed that Fawcett led the movement to give Mahfouz British citizenship in addition to royal honors.
